market due to its beauty, artistry, utility and attractive
designs and simplicity through its prints and embroidery.
A basic cotton cloth called "reza"
or "gadha" is woven all over Rajasthan by the julaha
(weaver community) but in some parts of the state, finer varieties
of cotton are produced, such as Kotah-doria from Kaithoon
(Near Kotah), Mulmal from Mathania (Jodhpur) etc.
Printing Printing is a well-established sector in Rajasthan.
Certain areas however are particularly renowned for their
printing skills - Balotra, Barmer, Pali, Jaisalmer, Pipad
in Jodhpur, Akola near Chittorgarh, Ahar in Udaipur, Bagru,
Kaladera and Sanganer in Jaipur district. In Rajasthan, each
community has its specific features that are evident and explicit
through their clothing. Embellishment is done through hand-block
printing, tie-and-dye technique and a great variety of embroideries
and stitchery. Every village and town has a few families of
dyers, known as rangrej or nilgars as well as printers or
chhipas.
