Rajasthan has to its credit varied
composition and colours of stones
and marble. Makarana city is famous
for its quality marble. It is
practically all-purpose and is
used for making religious images,
roofing, flooring, staircases,
platforms, tombstones, furniture
and show-pieces or tableware.
The white marble is known as 'sang-e-mal
mal'.
Marble is also
available in many colours, ranging
from gentle rose and salmon pink
to soft green, from old gold to
blazing saffron, from shy lemon
to chaste white. The green spotted
copper coloured tamrastone found
in Sawai Madhopur is used in many
images. Dungrapur has a soft shaped
stone, which because of its pliability
is used as a substitute for alabaster.
